Guinness World Records has confirmed that this year's 4th of July fireworks display on the National Mall was the largest in history.
The record-breaking display consisted of 840,537 fireworks and was achieved by Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico, Inc at an event organized by Event Strategies Inc in Washington D.C. The display lasted for approximately 40 minutes and was launched from multiple sites along the National Mall and on barges in the Potomac River.
Despite weather-related delays that forced evacuations from the area, hundreds of thousands of people still gathered to watch the display, which began just before midnight last month. The event was part of a larger celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The previous record holder for largest fireworks display was set in 2016 by a megachurch's New Year's Eve show, which featured 810,904 fireworks. Freedom 250, a public-private partnership led by the White House and chaired by President Trump, organized this year's event.
In a statement, Danielle Alvarez, spokesperson for Freedom 250, said: "This historic display shattered the previous global benchmark and stands as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and pride as we begin our nation’s next 250 years." The White House also released a statement praising President Trump's role in organizing the event.
