The Milwaukee Brewers are two wins away from their first World Series title after a thrilling comeback in Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in the first inning with RBI singles by Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero, followed by a two-run home run by Liam Hicks. The Brewers responded quickly, cutting the deficit in half in the bottom of the first with RBI singles by William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell.
The starting pitchers, Logan Henderson for the Brewers and Drew Rasmussen for the Rays, combined to throw just 6.2 innings. Rasmussen was pulled in the fourth after loading the bases and allowing another run, but Christian Yelich grounded out to end the threat. The Brewers' bullpen then took over, keeping the Rays off the scoreboard.
In the bottom of the sixth, Sal Frelick led off the inning with a solo home run off Ian Seymour, tying the game. Cooper Pratt then drove in Brice Turang to give the Brewers a 5-4 lead in the seventh. However, the Rays were not done yet, as Johnny DeLuca started the top of the ninth with a double to put the tying run in scoring position.
The game ended on a controversial call, as the first-base umpire ruled that Yandy Diaz did not check his swing on a 3-2 count, ending the game with Aaron Ashby's postseason scoreless streak at 15.2 innings. The Brewers ultimately won 5-4, with 11 total hits to the Rays' seven. Game 3 is scheduled for Monday night in Tampa Bay.
