A new analysis of Costco's prepared meals has found that the retailer's Kirkland Signature Mac and Cheese is one of the most affordable options available. According to estimates based on Denver-area prices and package weights, a tray of the mac and cheese costs about $17 per tray, or approximately $1.42 per serving. This is significantly lower than the estimated cost per serving of other prepared meals offered by Costco.
In contrast, the Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken Asian Wrap with Dressing was found to be one of the most expensive options, with an estimated cost per serving of about $4.72. The analysis was based on one regional market and estimated package weights, which can vary due to the fact that Costco's prepared deli meals are sold by weight.
The findings have sparked debate among Costco shoppers, with some praising the affordability and taste of the mac and cheese, while others have expressed disappointment with the quality and value of the wraps. A Reddit community dedicated to mac and cheese users had mixed opinions on the Kirkland Signature offering, with some calling it "better than 90% of the ready-made out there" and others saying it was not worth the cost.
Toshie Lucas, a Texas-based content creator who frequently posts about Costco on social media, weighed in on the findings, saying that while the mac and cheese is a favorite among her family, the wraps are overpriced. Lucas noted that shoppers should consider factors beyond price, including leftover potential, convenience, and whether their family will actually eat the meal.
Costco has not commented on the analysis, which was conducted by the food site Tasting Table.
