Max Verstappen has committed to remaining with Red Bull until 2030, ending speculation over his future in Formula One. The four-time world champion had held talks with McLaren and was linked to Mercedes over the past couple of years.
Verstappen's decision comes after a period of negotiations between his representatives and Red Bull executives, who were unwilling to improve on his current £60million-a-year deal. However, a compromise has been reached to keep their star driver.
The 28-year-old had been expected to confirm his plans ahead of his home race in the Netherlands this weekend. His new contract will take him through until 2030, although it is unclear whether this will be his final F1 deal.
Verstappen expressed his satisfaction with the extension on Red Bull Racing's official website, stating that he was "really pleased" to continue working with the team. He praised the team for their support and said that he felt at home with them, having achieved four world championships together.
Red Bull's sporting director, Laurent Mekies, welcomed Verstappen's decision, describing it as "fantastic news" for the team and the sport as a whole.
