This marks Trump's return to the role he previously held in 2017, when the Presidents Cup was held at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey. At that time, the U.S. Team defeated the International Team 19-11, and Trump participated in the trophy presentation.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp noted the long-standing connection between the Presidents Cup and world leaders, saying that Trump's involvement continues this legacy. Rolapp stated that the event aims to bring people together through golf, and that Trump's participation will help elevate the tournament on the international stage.
The 2026 Presidents Cup will feature a 12-man U.S. Team competing against a 12-man International Team. Brandt Snedeker will captain the Americans, while Geoff Ogilvy will lead the International Team.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump expressed his honor in accepting the role of honorary chairman, stating that the event will be "particularly exciting" due to the talented teams competing.
