Former NYPD detective in GWB road rage shooting indicted on murder charge

Dozens of Con Edison workers gathered outside a courthouse on Tuesday to show their support for the family of a colleague who was fatally shot in a road rage incident on the George Washington Bridge last week.

Victor Romero, a 62-year-old former NYPD detective who was working as a driver and security guard for a hedge fund, now faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the shooting of Koran Irvine, a 46-year-old Con Edison employee who had worked for the utility company for 20 years.

Prosecutors allege that Romero aggressively tailgated Irvine's car before pulling up next to it and firing at least one shot, following a near collision as the two men drove toward the George Washington Bridge. Authorities conducted a 24-hour manhunt to locate Romero after the shooting.

Romero, who had previously posted a $1 million bail and entered a not guilty plea to initial first-degree manslaughter charges, appeared in court alongside his attorney and his own private security. He made no public comments when approached by reporters outside the courthouse.

Romero is now scheduled for a Supreme Court arraignment on November 23.
