Jeff Gordon enjoyed a successful outing in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, winning both of the International Race of Champions events ahead of INDYCAR's Freedom 250 on Sunday.
The 10-lap exhibition races, which featured eight famous drivers competing in equally prepared Pontiac Firebirds, were a support event for the INDYCAR weekend on a 1.7-mile course that includes Pennsylvania, Constitution, and Independence avenues.
The drivers participating in the IROC races included former NASCAR drivers Gordon, Rusty Wallace, Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte, and Kurt Busch, as well as former full-time INDYCAR drivers Tony Kanaan and Hélio Castroneves and road-racer Tony Kendall.
Gordon, a four-time NASCAR Cup champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer, spoke highly of the experience, saying in a FOX Sports interview after the sweep that it was "super special" to be a part of the event, surrounded by enthusiastic fans celebrating 250 years of American history.
In his television interview after the first race, Gordon described the event as "a blast" and expressed his gratitude for being able to compete with such a legendary group of drivers.
