A superyacht worth an estimated $150 million has been docked in Marina del Rey, Los Angeles, with its name concealed. However, the identity of the vessel was quickly revealed to locals, who recognized the ship as belonging to J.K. Rowling, the author of the "Harry Potter" series.
According to sources, the yacht's name was covered soon after docking, but this measure did little to keep its identity under wraps. The superyacht was spotted by those behind the Instagram account twogirls.oneboat, with several commenters identifying the vessel as Rowling's Samsara.
The Samsara is a massive vessel, measuring 290 feet in length, and features a range of luxurious amenities, including a circular swimming pool, cinema, and beach club. The yacht can accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 26.
Superyacht broker Chris Cecil-Wright explained that owners may take steps to conceal their vessel's identity, but concealing a yacht's name is a rare practice. Cecil-Wright noted that wealthy and high-profile yacht owners often prioritize privacy, which can be difficult to maintain when traveling in public.
The Samsara was built by Oceanco and delivered in 2015 under the name Infinity. It was previously owned by businessman Eric Smidt and Australian billionaire Brett Blundy before being sold to Rowling in 2023.
