Retired officer arrested after GWB Con Edison worker shooting

A 62-year-old retired NYPD detective, Victor Romero, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting of a New York City utility worker on the George Washington Bridge.

According to the NYPD, the shooting occurred at 7:18 p.m. on Tuesday, when 46-year-old Con Edison worker Koran Irvine was shot in the shoulder while driving on the bridge. Irvine, a resident of Valley Cottage, crashed into a median on the bridge and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police responded to a 911 call of a male shot on the outbound, upper level roadway of the George Washington Bridge, and when investigators arrived, they found the victim unconscious and unresponsive in the driver's seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the rear of the right shoulder.

Romero, who lives in Haverstraw, was driving a black Range Rover at the time of the shooting, according to reports. He previously worked as an NYPD detective for 25 years before leaving the force.

The shooting appears to have been a road rage incident involving the two Rockland County residents. Con Edison has released a statement expressing its condolences to Irvine's family, friends, and colleagues, calling the incident a "senseless act of violence."
