The San Francisco 49ers maintained their undefeated record with a 23-17 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday night, but the Commanders suffered a significant blow as injuries continue to plague the team.
In the first half, Commanders wideout Terry McLaurin was carted off the field with an apparent left knee injury, leaving Washington facing a 13-3 deficit that grew to 20-3 by halftime. McLaurin, who was leading the team with 14 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown, was taken from the field without contact, prompting teammates and Niners players to take a knee in solidarity.
The Commanders' injury woes were compounded by a neck injury suffered by Leo Chanel in the second half, marking the second straight week the team has suffered a scare. San Francisco also sustained a notable injury hit before the break, as wide receiver Mike Evans left the game with less than a minute left in the second quarter with three receptions for 94 yards.
Despite the injuries, Jayden Daniels led the Commanders' comeback effort in the second half, throwing touchdown passes to Stefon Diggs and Rachaad White to cut the deficit to 23-17. However, the 49ers' defense held firm on Washington's final possession, securing the victory.
The Commanders' injury concerns are now magnified, with McLaurin's status uncertain and the team already dealing with the loss of star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil to a season-ending triceps injury.
