Emergency vehicles and personnel near a closed Oregon road following a helicopter collision

A midair collision between two helicopters occurred near McMinnville Municipal Airport in Oregon on Thursday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a Robinson R22 helicopter and an Airbus H125 helicopter collided around 2:15 p.m. local time.

Only the pilot was on board the Robinson R22, while two people were on the Airbus H125. The FAA did not release information about possible injuries or fatalities, leaving the condition of the three people on board unclear.

The collision took place in a field off Oregon Route 233, approximately one mile west of Dayton. The highway and nearby county roads were closed at the request of emergency responders, with no estimated reopening time given.

McMinnville Airport Manager John Paskell stated that the collision occurred off airport property and did not disrupt airport operations. The airport remained open without closures or restrictions. The FAA will investigate the collision alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which will lead the investigation and provide further updates.
