A young bear attacked two people outside their home in the Sunset Heights subdivision near Salmon, Idaho, on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 3:30 am in the small town, which has a population of just over 3,000.

The victims were on their porch when the attack happened, according to local reports. One of them was taken by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls for treatment.

Idaho Fish and Game was notified of the incident and mobilized a team to secure the scene. Authorities later tracked down the bear, believed to be a mother and her two cubs, and euthanized all three animals.

The sheriff's office has advised residents to take precautions to prevent bear encounters, including removing outdoor food smells, securing entry points, and using deterrents around their property. They also recommended securing food and trash, locking up garbage, cleaning outdoor grills, and removing bird feeders and outdoor pet food.

This is not the first bear attack in the area in recent months. In July, a jogger with his dog was attacked by a bear in a state park in Fremont County, south-east of Lemhi County. The jogger was able to walk out on his own, but the bear was not found.
