Ty Gibbs drove a two-tire strategy call to victory in the NASCAR Cup Series at Iowa Speedway on Sunday.
The decision was made by crew chief Tyler Allen ahead of the final pit stop, with Gibbs following his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell down pit road with 60 laps remaining. At that point, Bell was leading the race.
Gibbs took advantage of the situation and jumped past Bell in the pits, gaining track position that allowed him to hold off Bell for the remainder of the race. With 21 laps left on the clock, Gibbs had moved into the lead.
In a post-race interview, Gibbs credited his team and spotter Tony Hirschman for their efforts. He also expressed gratitude to Jesus Christ, saying "I just had to keep my head down, gel up, and stay with it."
Bell finished second in the race, marking his seventh runner-up finish of the season without a victory. Teammate Ryan Blaney rounded out the top three after starting from the pole position and leading 129 laps.
Other notable finishes included Josh Berry in fourth place and Denny Hamlin in fifth, despite battling brake issues throughout the weekend.
