NASCAR makes major change to 2027 Daytona 500 week

NASCAR has announced a major change to the 2027 Daytona 500 week schedule, with the Clash event returning to Daytona for the first time in several years. The Wheatley Vodka Clash will now run on Saturday night, February 13, eight days before the Daytona 500 and on the eve of the Super Bowl.

The decision marks a shift away from the "SpeedDays" format that has been criticized by fans and drivers alike. In recent years, the old "Speedweeks" have turned into a condensed schedule with some drivers not even getting to Daytona until the Wednesday before the race. This change is seen as a positive move by many in the NASCAR community.

The Clash will run on the oval at Daytona, with eligibility for the invitation-only event still to be determined. The late Kyle Busch won the last Clash at Daytona in 2021, but that race was held on the road course.

NASCAR fans have been vocal about their appreciation for the change, and some are seeing it as a return to tradition. However, others remain critical of the Next Gen car, which they believe has made the racing less exciting.

In other news, Ryan Blaney drew praise from fans for his tribute to Kyle Busch, including designing a special helmet that he wore during a recent race. The helmet featured a unique design and was seen as a way for Blaney to show respect towards Busch and his family.

Meanwhile, NASCAR driver Alex Bowman has announced plans to retire from full-time competition after the 2027 season.
