An 18-year-old woman has died after falling from an amusement park ride in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, prompting a criminal investigation and the replacement of the city's civil protection chief.

Gabriela Rodríguez Tezoco was riding the "El Péndulo" ("The Pendulum") attraction at the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Fiestas when she was somehow ejected from her seat while the machine was in motion. Emergency personnel, including state investigators and municipal police, rushed to the scene to administer first aid, but Tezoco succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

The incident has sparked administrative fallout, with local officials announcing the removal of the head of the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection and Risk Management. An interim director has been installed to ensure that investigators have access to the department's files and safety protocols.

The Baja California Sur State Attorney General's Office has launched a formal probe to determine liability, and forensic experts are examining the amusement park ride to verify if it met safety standards. The ride's operators have not been named, and no arrests have been made.

The incident has also prompted a preventative safety inspection of all other attractions at the fairground, ordered by Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez. The mayor has pledged municipal support to Tezoco's family and urged the community to rally around them.
