Two men have died within a 24-hour period at the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert, where tens of thousands of participants have gathered for the final days of the event.
One of the men, identified as 60-year-old Craigh Mann, was found dead by his campmates on Saturday afternoon, September 5, according to the Burning Man Project. Mann was discovered at his camp in Black Rock City, the temporary city built each year to host the festival.
A second participant, in his mid-50s, died after suffering a medical emergency the day before. He was pronounced dead at the festival's onsite emergency care center after receiving lifesaving measures. The type of medical emergency was not specified, and the man's name was not released as his family had not yet been notified.
Festival organizers, the Burning Man Project, expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, as well as to the wider community affected by the loss. They stated that the safety and well-being of the community and staff remain their highest priority.
The annual Burning Man festival, which began on August 30, is scheduled to conclude on Monday. The event draws as many as 80,000 people, known as "burners," to the Nevada desert.
